Manufacturing
Printing inks
Dispose of waste ink by sending it to a fuel blending service that combines these and other wastes for burning. Recycle inks to make black ink. Run similar jobs simultaneously to reduce waste volume.
Paints
Waste paint is hazardous because it is listed ignitable, toxic, or contains heavy metals. Mix only what you will use and consider switching to water-based paints. Install biofiltration systems to filter exhaust from spray areas.
Spent Solvents
Store waste solvents separately to facilitate recycling. Replace toxic solvents with less hazardous products. Cover solvent containers to prevent product volatilization.
Industrial Sludge
Comes from warehouses or manufacturing buildings. It is a by-product of industrial processes and contains highly concentrated levels of metals and chemicals. It is harmful to humans and the environment. Sludge should not be disposed of into the sewer or stormdrain. Hire a registered transporter to remove the sludge and haul it away to be treated.
Equipment maintenance
Reclaim used solvents on site or contract with a recycling facility. Reuse solvents. Collect hazardous waste and ship it using a registered transporter to a hazardous waste facility.
Cleaning Business Vehicles & Tank Trucks
Wash vehicles more frequently to prevent residue accumulation that could make wash waters hazardous. Divert wash water away from stormdrains, and wash vehicles in a grassy area that will absorb polluted waters. Install a wash bay that is connected to an oil water separator. Consider using a commercial car wash.
